A graduate of the Fine Arts, Françoise Nielly now exhibits her colorful and energetic canvases worldwide, deconstructing, breaking down, and reconstructing human faces to reveal splinters of life from various angles.
Françoise Nielly was born in Marseille, grew up in the south of France, and currently resides in Paris.
Having gained attention for her incredible skill in wielding the palette knife and oil paint, Françoise Nielly now exhibits her colorful and energetic canvases worldwide. Her work deconstructs, decomposes, and recreates human faces, revealing glimpses of life from various angles.
While her art draws inspiration from a vibrant pop art universe reminiscent of Andy Warhol, Françoise Nielly also aligns with the techniques of the Cubists, involving a representation of bodies in facets. Indeed, through her work on color that disrupts and disassembles faces, her inspiration can be directly traced to artists like Picasso and Bacon.
In her canvases, splatters emerge, bright colors and material are hurled like projectiles. Faces appear in this sequence of strokes and shapes.
Her energy imparts the characteristic intensity of her fascinating universe to each touch.
These vibrant and shimmering colors, reminiscent of the landscapes of the south of France where she spent her childhood, offer her works an expressiveness, strength, and a striking treatment of portraiture.
Furthermore, in a video interview, she reveals that, for her, “life is perhaps too tough, too sad, so I see, I consume colors, and I pour all my energy into painting.”
In her own unique way, Françoise Nielly reimagines the human face in each of her paintings. She does it with a sledgehammer, with knife strikes slashing across the face. The bursts of life that emerge from her paintings are born from a direct confrontation with the canvas. Color is hurled like a projectile. Her energy imbues each stroke with the intensity of a sound vibration.
The paint spots are like musical notes, dissonant and noisy, just like life. But in the space of the canvas, they harmonize into a single tone that gives its soul to each of the faces.
It’s an anthem to life, showcasing intense and fascinating faces.
